CAN YOUR WINDSHIELD BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED?
We look at two deciding factors to determine if your BMW’s windshield needs repairs or complete replacement.
SIZE OF THE DAMAGE
Our technicians first look at the size of the damage. Cracks shorter than 3 inches, and rock chips smaller than the circumference of a quarter can be repaired quickly. However, if the damage to your windshield is larger than 3 inches or the circumference of a quarter, we will need to install a replacement windshield.
LOCATION OF THE DAMAGE
If the damage is small enough to be repaired, we then look at where it is located. Perimeter damage will likely spread through normal driving conditions. This can compromise the windshield's structural integrity, so replacement windshields are often installed when there is damage toward the edge of the glass. When the damage is located toward the windshield’s center and small enough, our technicians can repair the damage without installing a replacement windshield. Sometimes, however, the damage is located directly within the driver’s line of sight. Even if small enough to repair, we will replace the windshield altogether in these circumstances. This is because the repair process will leave behind a minor distortion in the glass, and we never aim to impair driver visibility with our service.
